AUTOMATION
FOR THE HOTEL

The automation of a hotel building can be designed in many ways and on a variety of equipment. Regardless of the adopted solution, it should take into account the specificity of the facility and the requirements of its users. In no case should it be an end in itself, with lots of “bells and whistles” and attractive additions obscuring the basic functionality. Using it should be intuitive for the guest, and it should not require any specialist preparation from the staff. SENSOR is such a solution, a product aimed at tourist facilities such as hotels, guesthouses, apartments for rent, etc.

Success in the hotel industry depends on many factors. It is not only the location and appearance or the architecture of the hotel itself and the range of services, amenities or attractions offered, but above all the standard in which they are implemented. Even the best crew needs technical support to ensure the highest standard of hotel guest service. It is responsible for the ongoing control and management of all relevant factors (e.g. temperature in individual rooms, lighting, access to rooms or parking) and providing the necessary information related to effective hotel administration to the appropriate people on an ongoing basis.

In conjunction with the hotel program, the SENSOR system creates a comprehensive set of solutions that effectively support facility management. The basis of these solutions is both reliable equipment responsible for measurements, data collection and control of the connected devices, as well as software thanks to which they are collected, processed in accordance with the adopted algorithms and visualized for the needs of the personnel supervising their work.

The Automation System for the Hotel is based on the hardware of the world-renowned Polish company ROGER, specializing in the design and production of electronic security systems, and proprietary software by SENSOR-ONLINE.

Thanks to the long-term cooperation of both companies, the system is constantly being developed and supplemented with new functionalities desired by users, both in terms of controllers and management software.

HRC 102/402 controller

Autonomous “heart” of each room and passage. It has built-in logic in the firmware, thanks to which, at the configuration stage, you can create extensive operation algorithms. When designing, a multi-passage controller was consciously omitted, as damage to it would mean the need to switch off several rooms – which is an unacceptable cost for the hotel. Therefore, in this case, one controller is responsible for one door/room, and the entire operating logic is contained in its internal software (so-called firmware). This solution has all the benefits of having an on-line system, and at the same time provides high security in the event of hardware, network or management unit failure.

The “small” and “large” controllers are functionally the same devices – they differ only in the number of inputs and outputs and the resulting housing size.

Temperature control – AC panel, temperature sensor, card holder

Temperature managemant and control is one of the most important functionalities of the SENSOR system. Depending on the occupancy status of the room, the appropriate room temperature is maintained , minimizing the costs associated with unnecessary heating/cooling of unoccupied rooms.

The system can control any solution: wall-mounted radiators, underfloor heating, fan coil units and, via ModBus gateways, VRF and VRV air conditioners.

In most cases, an AC panel with a built-in display, temperature sensor and touch control keys is used as a supervisory element. In places where it is not desirable for the user to be able to set the temperature himself, temperature sensors or a sensor built into the card holder is used (adjustment then takes place from the level of the management application)

Access control

Reliable access control is ROGER’s hallmark. In the hotel version, there are four function LEDs that can signal the check-in status, the presence of a guest, the activation of the “Do not disturb” function and many, many others.

Outside the rooms, access control is very often used at entrances from the outside, gates, barriers, and technical rooms. Working in the office mode allows you to permanently open the passages in the administrative part or conference rooms. Additional functionality related to schedules allows you to exclude selected spaces from access at certain times of the day (SPA, main entrance, swimming pool, etc.)

Card holder – not only power switch

Card holder in the SENSOR system is not just an ordinary power switch. It’s also a card reader. It means that the device recognizes the card and knows what functionalities it should run for each of them. The room’s power will be turned on only for a valid card, the call for help system will work for specific people, and staff and visitors will be able to use the buttons of the function panel in different ways.

For large facilities, an additional benefit may be the availability of a minibar after inserting a card with appropriately set options.

Function keys panel

In the basic version, it replaces the standard “Do Not Disturb” and “Please clean the room” door handle hangers. Extended with additional keys, it allows you to call for help for luggage or waiter service.

After inserting the employee’s card into card holder, the functionality of the buttons may change. Among others you can remotely report a room cleaning or a malfunction.

A frequently used function is the ability to control lighting.

Call for help functionality

Installation required in most facilities, usually purchased as a separate system. In the case of SENSOR automation, it is just another extension of functionality  based on the existing cable infrastructure, within the same application.

Call buttons are most often found in rooms or toilets intended for people with disabilities. They are usually in the form of bell or pull buttons (e.g. in showers).

But there are many more places where alarming is extremely useful. We can connect flood, freon, carbon monoxide, smoke, etc. sensors. And the reaction to their activation may be, for example, closing water or gas valves.

A clear visualization and a notification server mean that a given alert is sent almost immediately to selected people on the screens of the indicated computers.

PMS Interface

The available API allows for integration with any hotel software. After receiving data from the PMS system, the SENSOR system resets the state of the rooms/rooms to the desired configuration. In the basic version, it is the issuing of access cards for the Guest and switching the temperature control to the comfortable mode.

But nothing prevents the hotel system from giving a command to heat or cool the room earlier. Alerts and notifications can also be sent the other way – from the automation system to the reception desk. In this way, the needs of the guest, the activation of the call system, the notification of room cleaning or faults can be signaled.
